7 Items Every College Student Should Have In Their Dorm

By Uloop Guest Writer on July 2, 2013

If you’re preparing to move to college, don’t assume that you’re completely ready after packing your clothes and book list. Chances are there are still several items that you haven’t even considered. Before you’re done, make sure to pick up these dorm room essentials.

1. Storage Boxes: Maximize Your Dorm Space

Dorm rooms are small. In fact, the Southern Methodist University says that
the average dorm room size is under 200 square feet,
and that’s usually split between two people. This means that every inch of your
100 square foot space is valuable, but you can utilize the space better with
storage boxes. Stack these boxes in the closet or under the bed to save a bit
of room.

2. Entertaining
Toys: Keep Yourself Entertained Between Classes and Studying

Toys and games aren’t just for little kids. When you’re stuck with nothing
to do in between classes and study time, you need something to entertain
yourself with. Keep board games, electronics, puzzles, or even
remote-controlled robotics handy. Pricegrabber toys

 are the perfect solution
to all of your entertainment needs.

3. A Safe: Keep Your Belongings Safe
and In Your Possession

You can’t always choose your roommate, which means that you never know if you can trust
them or not. Keep a safe in your room to ensure that your
valuables, money, and credit cards won’t go missing. Even if you do trust your
roommate, he or she might bring friends over who you don’t know, and a safe
simply keeps your valuables secure and out of sight.

4. Mini Fridge: Cool Down Your Beverages and Food

Almost every first-year college student comes to their dorm prepared with a mini fridge.
It’s an obvious essential, but we’ve added it to the list because it’s also
very crucial to college life. You’ll want to have snacks on hand when
studying, and you can keep your leftovers and treats fresh in the fridge when
you get hungry and the dining hall is already closed for the night.

5. Bath Caddy: Organize Your Bath Essentials To Maximize Space

While this is another obvious dorm room essential, it’s also an important dorm room item that
acts as somewhat of a simple lifesaver. If you have to share bathrooms with the
people on your floor, carrying all your toiletries back and forth several times
a day can become annoying. With a bath caddy, however, carrying your toiletries
is simple and makes organizing your space even easier. Plus, bath totes are
super cheap. For example, pick up a carrying tote from your local Dollar Tree
for just $1.

6. Bath Robe: Stay Dry Between Your Dorm and the Showers

Another item that will make your trips to the bathroom easier is a bath robe. Many college
dorms don’t have changing rooms in the bathroom; they simply have toilet and
shower stalls. To avoid getting your clothes wet while you shower, simply wear
your bath robe to and from the showers.

7. Fan: Keep Yourself Comfortable at All Times

Not every dorm comes with air conditioning, and if you’re stuck in a hot, muggy location without an air conditioner, you’ll want to at least have a fan blowing on you while you study.

Whether you’re a new college student or headed back to the dorms a second or third time, make sure to have these items in your room.
